Early Childhood Education Classes

 Early childhood education music and movement classes offered through OnStage School of Performing Arts are different from the more commercial programs that are available to our community. Rather than focusing on one area of the arts, our programs at OnStage integrates a vocal and instrumental music experience with drama, puppetry, creative and imaginative movement, dance, play, arts and crafts, and story-telling.
Each course utilizes props, costumes, musical instruments, and a multitude of other media to attract students to the stage with confidence. Guided by highly accredited teachers, our curriculum is woven with developmental activities that build school readiness skills such as fine and gross motor movement, pre-reading, counting and patterns, listening and speaking, and socialization.
OnStage offers students the opportunity to grow with and further develop their talent at our School of Performing Arts. Our toddler and preschool classes are precursors to our school-age through adult offerings which include individual lessons for acting, vocal, and instrument; musical theater classes and productions; show choir, performance recitals and more. In addition, OnStage offers competitive prices to comparable music and movement classes within the Charlotte Metro area.

This Spring at OnStage!
For Our Shining Stars:
(3 years old and up)
MUSIC PLAY BY ONSTAGE Ages 3 - 5 years
Enter a young child’s world of musical exploration. This unique preschool class introduces different musical styles and rhythms through a variety of playful songs. Children will have fun with nonsense lyrics and quirky tunes as
they participate in an assortment of movement activities and the exploration of simple instruments.
Time: Thursdays 1:30 - 2:30 PM

DINO-ROCK! Ages 3 - 5 years
Our preschool stars will have a dino-mite time stomping through a prehistoric world of music and adventure. Children will use a variety of art materials and techniques to create dinosaur products such as masks, puppets, and figures. Costumes and props will be used to dramatize stories based on both dino-facts and fiction. Instruments, songs and poetry will bring these extinct creatures back to life!
Time: Wednesdays, 1:30 - 2:30 PM

MOTHER GOOSE AND GRIMM Ages 3 - 5 years
Imagine if the Three Little Pigs lived on Old MacDonald’s farm! We’ll do just that - and more - as our Shining Stars retell these classic tales and act out our favorite nursery rhymes. Each class will focus on a different Grimm fairy tale or nursery rhyme with imaginative drama activities, costume and set design, poetry and
music. This class is ideal for our youngest preschool performers.

Make Way for Ducklings!
Make Way for Ducklings - They’re headed for OnStage! What fun we’ll have as we explore the world of our web-footed friends and re-enact this beloved, Caldecott Award-winning classic children’s tale.

FUN FRIDAYS!
(Ages 3 - 6 years)
Looking for an afternoon of fun? This pay-as-you-go class will focus on a different theme one Friday of each month. Drama activities like pantomime, improvisation and story re-telling are just some of the fun you can have Friday afternoons at OnStage! One day we may be bringing out our inner Picassos, the next class might have us singing in a Rock ‘n Roll band! Come see us for fantasy and fun on Friday!

SUMMER CAMPS BEGIN WEEK OF JUNE 11, 2012
All of our week long camps are 9am - 12pm and take place in our studio and venue locations.
Special performance for friends and family on the last day of camp!

Preschoolers and rising kindergarteners will enjoy a week filled with puppetry activities. Each day will offer a different story that the children will adapt into a script. Children will use different techniques and a variety of art media to make puppets and to design sets that correspond with the daily story. Song will be incorporated into the experience and culminate in a puppetry production at the end of each day.
 June 18 - 22 Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Your child will be a STAR at OnStage as we explore the solar system through improvisation, poems, music and story telling. Our preschoolers and kindergarteners will rocket to the moon and dance among the stars!
June 25 - 29 DINO-ROCK, Summer Edition
Loved our dinosaur class last fall? Then you’re sure to enjoy this week long camp of prehistoric adventures.  July 9 - 13 THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR
One of our most popular camps is sure to be a hit with your child! We will learn the life cycle of a butterfly while we're having fun acting out this popular children's book. Come prepared to giggle while you wriggle!

How much fun can your preschooler or kindergartener have in one week? Find out when they clown around with OnStage this summer! Come prepared to get messy as face painting, water balloons and silly string are all part of the show.
 July 23 - 27 Fairies and Dragons
Our imaginations will lead us to a magical world of beautiful fairies and friendly dragons. This enchanting week includes dress-up, costume design and set decoration.
 July 30 - August 3 Jump into a Storybook
Children will adapt fairytale stories into scripts which will be dramatized at the end of each class through mini-productions. Props and sets for each fairytale will be designed by the children and made from a variety of art media. Costumes will be explored and songs will be sung to enhance the final fairytale performances.
